Health and Care Experience Navigator

Why you are motivated to be involved and support the organisation’s mission and objectives?

I have a passion for equality. I believe everybody should be given an equal and fair chance in life, for me equality and fairness is about personalisation. Understanding and hearing an individual empowering people to make positive life choices. I am extremely motivated to be involved with Career Matters because of the important flags they fly. Everyone needs someone to believe in them!

Role at Career Matters

  • Supporting systems to understand care experience and how to improve outcomes for the care experienced community.
  • Supporting care experienced young people and adults with signposting, mentoring and advocacy.
  • Training professionals and employers in recruitment support for care experienced people.

Headline experience

I first started out as a care leaver on local authority interview panels in 2019. Slowly my confidence started to grow and that led to participating in other opportunities such as becoming a young leader for the children in care council, public speaking at social worker conferences, training student social workers, independent visitors and NHS staff. In 2022 I became a participation assistant within the NHS through the kick-start scheme, this post led to further employment and I then became a healthcare assistant on the acute wards, later leading to a community mental health post completing physical health and mental wellbeing checks for individuals who battle severe mental health challenges.
